It’s any easier to deal with when you’re the person just trying to get to know the new person. I’m a lot better than I was as a kid. Like, over ten years of therapy later I’m a lot more comfortable with people in general. I still find opening up to new people difficult.

Like until whatever switch there is in my head flicks and suddenly I can be open and free with the other person. Until then I’m a fairly dense grab bag of defensive conditioning that sees any attempt at closeness as a threat of the highest order. It’s frustrating as all fuck and I can’t imagine
