I reused the imagery from my Hello Earth painting for the artwork to 'Beyond Mars' from The Modern Game. For most of this 2018 album the theme was the online world, here in homage to Bowie. The 2026 remaster is just out, a video for each track will appear on my music channel.

It's a new frame actually, I decorated it to look old.

No conscious Bosch in this one, but I'm still honoured by the comparison. I have painted or made a few things that had Bosch influences.

Thanks. Actually I made a model of the 'altar'/object, lit it and used that, this helps. My paintings are often fantastical but I rarely imagine scenes, but create stages and mock-ups if accurate lighting is desired.

Usually, yes. Sometimes they are merely decorated, sometimes made from scratch with wood, gesso, decoration on top, or even thick plaster with sculptural parts or doors etc.

It does, though I've varnished it to stop it rubbing charcoal onto fingers. I have other scented works. One Victorian style frame has lavender scented grey-green powder, which certainly made it feel even more Victorian!

Thanks, well put. Yes, for me the frame is part of the work, it can set such a mood. This has a sort of old Dutch feeling; old, dusty, ancient. I tend to make my own frames.

Here is one of my smaller paintings: 'Insomnia Due To Impending Sacrifice', oil on canvas panel, 52x47cm. A depiction of a night of anxiety, with inspiration from the Biblical sacrifice of Isaac. I charred the inner frame to carbonise it.

Here is another self portrait: 'Self Portrait with Black Hole' (2013), oil on MDF panel, 45x73cm, in its custom frame of wood, perspex mirror corners, 23kt gold leaf. The black hole was an indication of an empty mind at the time.

More work on 'The Many Beautiful Worlds of Death' audiobook, just about finished. Hard work and time consuming, but has the joy of feeling like an actor. How sad that AI can't feel the delight of playing different characters. The paper book has been around for some years.

Well, the clue is in the title, yet ars longa.

It's 40x50cm. If you mean in inches, it's 16 wide, 20 high.

With clouds etc. it would be a fuzzy blob and tarnish the idea of a distant home. A painting isn't supposed to reflect 'reality' (whatever that is, bare arm on the moon aside) but an intuitive idea... at least a portrayal of concepts and instant feeling.
