I think that’s it. For data purposes they are classed as a group and this is hugely problematic and something that needs changing. We don’t refer to any groups in our school really (unless looking at data, and even then I don’t pay much attention). In school we use the children’s names…

What about if 'Send' means a group of children that have various additional needs. If there is a shared understanding of the term, used appropriately..

What is NDA?

When I first became a Head, I wanted someone to call about stupid little things. Also, someone completely objective and nonjudgmental to visit my school and tell me what they saw. No agenda, no personal bias, but helpful suggestions. I'm thinking of starting something like this.

I respect Kimberley's work and who she is as a person. I probably didn't explain myself clearly enough..

You have hit the nail on the head. It won't make any difference to our staff, because we don't do that paperwork anyway, but I have the confidence to explain this to anyone that asks and they can see how effective we are. But other schools won't.

I hope this makes sense. It isn’t the extra work, it is the pointless evidencing of this extra work. And if you have more than half your class needing these adjustments and adaptations, the work itself is enough. I’m quite happy for teachers to tell me about their class verbally, some won’t be.

Adjustments and interventions made as a matter of course will now have to be evidenced, and impact assessed, and reviewed on a statutory document. If you have 20 or more children in your class with these (which we do) you are just not going to do that paperwork. We will continue the work; some won’t

I personally think it will be a good thing that many children are removed from the sen 'lists' as we can now see their daily adjustments and adaptations as common teaching practice, but there is no doubt the amount of 'send' children will reduce. This realignment is the heart of the issue..
