It’s a fair point - But you can take the policies seriously, dislike most of them (as I do), and still have the level headedness to understand that a Lab-Gre coalition at the next election is not going to abolish NATO or seek degrowth

I said β€œGreens” so no I’m well aware of that fact - The dynamics and policy platforms are not very different so I think the wider point stands - The overreaction to a still distant and remote possibility is very silly

It may have escaped your notice but Greens were in coalition in Scotland and none of those things happened - It just pulled the government a bit further left economically and socially which may not be a bad thing in the UK?

If you happen to know any journalists I would imagine having a dig around the communications between Cabinet Office and UK Vetting would be very interesting (assuming they’re not in scope of the current disclosure)

It’s completely inappropriate to use the CS DV system to vet political appointees IMO - As Arthur says there is far too much political pressure to nod someone through which the relatively junior people involved in vetting cannot resist

Maybe they could just cut back on the lattes and avocado toast for a bit to help fund it?

It is by definition illiberal if you remove the choice not to have it - Whether it is useful or not and whether it is abused by the state are different matters

I don't live there any more and was taken aback when I visited last year how different it was to when I left 10 years ago; definitely busier in central areas than I remembered - But different only means worse if you're a terrified home counties Facebook GBeebies racist

We don’t do court reports, especially when it comes to violent crime, but there’s always an exception.

Still nothing that will convince the Project 2025 people that he's no use to them any more which feels like the most important tipping point - The wording of the request for the documents needs to be absolutely watertight or it's likely to be much ado about nothing again
