"Eddie the Banished", 8.5"x11", mixed media on paper for @sugarmyntgallery 's Welcome to Hawkins show opening next month. I have A LOT to say about this one! This character could've been inspired by my husband. I remember watching the season premier and joking with him about it, even down to him yelling "THAT'S MY WATCH!" and holding out his arm to show me that he and Eddie did, in fact, have the same watch on. When he learned that SugarMynt was doing a Stranger Things show, he told me "So you're drawing Eddie." as a statement of fact rather than a question. (As if I was going to pick anyone else!) I've been on a 2 year art hiatus after some burnout, between taking on too many projects and a busy day job. Not only was I out of practice, but I hadn't sat down and completed a full portrait in all of that time. This was my fourth attempt, after starting the drawing three times and ultimately throwing them away because the likeness wasn't there. But by the end, I was actually looking forward to sitting down and drawing again. It's been a long time since I felt that. I'm also so happy to be working with SugarMynt again! I usually work right up to the deadline for gallery shows, so I don't get a lot of time to sit with my finished work, and I'm a little sad to be sending this off so soon. I'm finding myself wandering back into my work space just to look at it again, maybe a little surprised that I managed to pull it off. I really hope you all like this one and go see it at the show if you can, in person is always so much better!
