It’s not just NYC that benefits, either. NYPL is based in NYC, but the entire state benefits from its services. It’s really heartbreaking to hear that @mayor.nyc.gov didn’t keep this promise. I know things are more complicated than they seem, but half a percent seemed like a pretty easy one to keep.

Do any of you feel shame anymore, or are you so immune to embarrassment that you’ve just gone completely numb to it now?

If not already mentioned, avoid plastic food and water bowls. They attract more bacteria than ceramic. My cats got such bad feline acne from their plastic bowls, and it cleared up in less than a month without any other intervention when we switched to ceramic and metal bowls.

Online shopping, healthcare, education, hobbies, food delivery, socialization, etc are the best or only option some of us have, most or all of the time. If the goal is to get more people offline and out of the house, don’t bitch at us, take an active part in making it SAFE and ACCESSIBLE for us.

Every time these conversations come up, I think of how violent our society has become toward disabled people, queer people, people of color, and young people (especially if they fall into any of the above categories). So many third places are not safe, accessible, or existent anymore.

I also read two novelettes involving queer people who find porn online that seems to depict them even thought they never did porn, one of which is in translation right after listening to Every Day I Read by Hwang Bo-Reum, which itself is in translation and talks ABOUT books in translation.

My reading list has been so weirdly connected lately. In the last three months I’ve read three Carmilla adaptations/reimaginings (& ordered two more in spite of never having read the source material), and two different queer werewolf books, listened to Queer as Folklore by @sachacoward.bsky.social

If you use USPS to ship anything with tracking, be sure to check and make sure the tracking has actually been scanned. If you don’t see any activity on it within a reasonable period, call to complain. Got info from work today that USPS scans only a percentage of tracking, even though we pay for it.
