Chung's final film Web of Deception is his most underrated, a female driven Hitchcockian cat and mouse thriller. Very twisty, with some incredible giallo lighting, great performances, and stylistic influences from De Palma and Kubrick. Seriously, seek this one out!

After the big success of Royal Warriors, Chung got a bigger budget to make another film with Michelle Yeoh. The result was Magnificent Warriors, a Hong Kong riff on Indiana Jones. While it's not quite as kinetic as Royal Warriors it's just as full of incredible stunt work and a great sense of humor

Crazy how dogshit A24's slate looks this year. The quippy Death of a Unicorn? The cheeky cult of celebrity flick Opus? Alex Garland's Iraq War propaganda Warfare? All dead on arrival

Loved the Rule of Jenny Pen. Oldsploitation at its finest. Great performances from John Lithgow and Geoffrey Rush paired with some disorienting cinematography. Really digs into the dread of elderly care homes and the battles against one's own body and agency.

The most frustrating part is that it's still edited like a standard Severance episode! They lack the formal rigor to actually slow it down and get contemplative

Thankful Severance at least has the restraint to not go overboard on celebrity cameos

Honestly I'm souring on season 2 of Severance in the exact same way I soured on season 2 of The Bear. A lot of fart-sniffing after a breakout success. Attempts at experimentation on the formula without the formal rigor to actually mix it up
