Yes, it's purely for the roster spot. They'd have to pay her either way, so this way they get to do something else with that roster spot. Even a 7-day contract requires an open space on the roster, unless you're eligible for a hardship exception.

How do you manage to turn multiple groups wanting to pay $300m+ for a WNBA franchise into something that feels like an organisational clusterfuck? #WNBA

Yeah, and with Stewart out neither side was really getting true preparation for a potential Finals anyway. That was just an afterthought.

Given how much pain she appeared to be in when she went down, Collier being out two weeks is a home run for Minnesota. If she's back 100% after that, they'll happily settle for that outcome. Might only miss four games (and New York get less practice at defending her). #WNBA
