A cheap alternative to metal armor is pickle barrel armor made from HDPE. It works well against HIGH IMPACT and LESS LETHAL weapons commonly used in medieval contact sports. Weapons made from wood, rattan, or hard rubber. You can google how to make pickle barrel armor.
