And it’s still dead. there was a metal key inside the fob so he spent ages looking for keyhole, trying to prise off plastic facia. Turns out they haven’t changed fob from old model so the metal key is just a blank (head explodes)

Mate hired a new Audi A6 Avant diesel. Battery died. How he got in:
1. read online about magic red door button.
2. press hard with finger
3. Same with screwdriver, red rope comes out
4. remove facia on bumper to find two wires
5. connect 12v battery
6. pull red rope with key nearby

Well, Porsche killed the platform it was riding on so Lambo had no choice but to kill the EV and say no one wanted it. Sure it would have been a hard sell now but in 2029?

Gonna argue with you man. It’s about getting a handle on costs so that in a stable market you can sell cars people want to buy while making a profit and meeting regs. China’s market is madness. Car companies chasing their tail on more more MORE tech to get an edge is going to end badly.

Interesting question to which the indirect answer is EV. Nissan found it could save money on the new Leaf by not offering a heated windscreen because the car cabin warmed up so quickly it rendered in-glass filaments redundant

Don’t think so. Long equals lots of motorways so just bimbling along at 70mph really. The Renault Scenic is pretty efficient with its heat pump but key is being gentle on the accelerator. I think. New to this!

Three months into EV ownership (leaseship) I find that for everyday driving you don’t think about efficiency at all. Well within range and nighttime charging is cheap enough not to worry. That mindset changes on long journeys when you learn not to hoof it so much.

The American government’s hard reverse on EVs has achieved the same almost the same multi-billion dollar hit for automakers (on writedowns) but in less than a year!

Please don’t do this @bbc (shouting into the void I know). I don’t want headlines in iPlayer choices for the Winter Olympics. Been avoiding those all day! This one is day 1 but still doing it.

History has decided to put Peugeot no1 overall in that era so going with that and hoping. Also guessing AX in the running but too unrefined so second. Uno has some runner-up prize for character. Mini last (less rose tinted views back then).

Jack Barclay in series 1 Minder! Still in Berkeley Square today, now Bentley only. Salesman tells Arthur the waiting period for a Rolls is β€˜rather longer than the gestation period of an elephant’
Arthur: "Yes well, we're all not zoological experts, how long is that?"
"About 3 years I’m afraid sir"

UK - no punitive tariffs on Chinese EVs, but excluded from incentives.
Germany - punitive tariffs on Chinese EVs (via EU) but included in new EV and PHEV incentives!
Should add…

SMMT tidies up a bit. And I like that they lump MHEVs in with the petrol diesel lot. But they definitely do concern themselves with fuel! The constant highlighting that car makers aren’t hitting ZEV mandate targets when they don’t need to, with all the flexibilities. Which everyone laps up

Maybe more like LPG, scavenging round the back of industrial estates. New Automotive data is fine. They just use the DLVA api. Difference from SMMT (itself a lobby group!) is they include mild hybrids in hybrid classification.

Following my earlier post, I want to clearly explain what has happened since, as the situation has become even more concerning.
We collected our brand-new Polestar 4 from Polestar Wilmslow, and just 12 days later the car completely broke down with a critical electrical fault. Prior to this, the vehicle had already shown warning signs, including app disconnection and screen issues.
After the breakdown, despite multiple formal complaints, Polestar showed no urgency or ownership. The car was left for days in a public place, unsecured, unlocked, with the windows down.
Only after we shared our experience on social media did Polestar finally act and recover the vehicle β€” on day 3.
For several days there was no replacement vehicle, despite repeated complaints. Eventually, late at night (after 9:30pm), we received a call from Enterprise, asking for our address so they could collect us and take us to a dealership to issue a hire car.
To be clear how unsettling this was: an unbranded car turned up late at night, collected us, and drove us to a dealership. Given everything that had already happened, this was extremely uncomfortable - although we were later reassured it was Enterprise staff.
