The book was able to have the narrative exist but it was a small piece. There was not the pushback there would have been in real life, and that's fine. The book's main conflict wasn't about that.
But I think it is well worth discussing wider and will stay with me. Words Matter.
So. In the book our Lead Character (white, cishet Jewish Woman) is speaking with her international team and uses "Colony" and two other women visibly react negatively. And while I know how terrible colonization was, I have never tripped to the use of it for Space Exploration and expansion.

I will probably re-read the series to have the full cast of characters but one of the subplots was the discussion about the use of the word "Colony" for leaving Earth 🧵
