I think there's also less "fuck you" money to go around these days, and these middle-ground actors and creators are not used to making themselves a brand, unlike many younger creators and public figures who are blessedly picking up the ball. So they decide they'll stand for nothing.

While I think some of this is motivated by fear of conservatives coming after them, I also think a huge part of it is "republicans buy sneakers too" at a much larger scale. They want to keep working, and more often than not, they're working for conservative ghouls they don't want to offend.

something I've been thinking about quite a bit recently (since Rob Reiner died) is what celebrities can replace people like him, Jane Fonda, Bruce Springsteen, etc. in terms of being open and unapologetic about their politics.

The current generation of middle-aged celebs are not up for it.
