Let's be clear, the BBC's front page news story all day had been "migrant given £500". While a violent white supremacist bejbg arrested with a shed full of bombs is not in the front page - it's "local news"

"Balance" on the internet, in the media- or anywhere - should not mean we have to "balance" truth with lies

We don't need to give weight or a platform to flat earthers to "balance" the truth of a round earth

We do not need to present nonsense as fact in the name of balance

The BBC has no excuse for this

Already we have a problem with religions providing public services like homeless provision or religious spaces being used for public essentials like polling places - spaces which can be very exclusionary and unsafe to victims of religion. Doubling down on that is further exclusion

It speaks glowingly of the community assets that religions could bring and contribute without any acknowledgement that such spaces are inherently exclusionary to people who face religious hostility and by integrating religion directly into the community you are barring those spaces from victims

Except it dirsnt. The only brief nod it has to faith based bigotry is to refer to people fighting the church for their rights as "historic". It speaks glowingly of "shared values" without any acknowledgement that those values could be, eg, homophobia and transphobia
