This interview with the great @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social was a "wow" moment for me. Thanks, New York Times and David Marchese.

I couldn't help noticing the question that seemed the most Times-like to me.
I love the idea that *this* US government, which has been nabbing landscapers and five year olds knows where Iranian sleeper cells are but just hasn’t gotten around to doing anything about it yet.
There are so many empty seats behind home plate that for a second I thought I was watching a Yankees home game.
Mexico's plan to beat Italy seems to be to let them drink so many espresso shots they get really, really jittery.
I believe it originated as foam insulation developed by NASA for the Apollo program.
On a school trip to tour the factory I leaned against what I thought was a wall but was actually the side of an oven. Seared my shoulder on the Twinkie-roasting machine.
I always read that as "barge in." Why wait for an invitation to buy "snack cakes" filled with puffed lard when you can just barge in? But only on a Wednesday!
My home town had a Hostess factory with an attached store. One day they put up a sign that said, "Wednesday Is Bargin Day." It remained that way for years, but eventually someone must have noticed the typo: The sign was amended to "Wednesday is 'Bargin' Day." Now it was intentional!
DiMaggio's hitting streak or (I think I prefer this) Cookie Lavagetto's two out no-hitter ending walk-off hit in Game 3 of the 1947 World Series.
This is fantastic.
Who will tell the people?
When will the people wake up to having been betrayed? Well...
"Sir, I agree to this Constitution... [it] can only end in despotism as other forms have done before it, when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic government, being incapable of any other."--Benjamin Franklin, 1787
I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public.
I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.
1/ Here's what I can share:
Everyone loves a podcast, right? This week on the Infinite Inning: www.spreaker.com/episode/infi...
This really upset me until I got to the correction.
Horrible creep explains why DOGE slapped the "DEI" label on a documentary about Jewish women Holocaust survivors.
Monstrous administration.
When does he go out in public?
"People who died and right now are walking around with no legs, no arms..." Kids, it's cliched to light the "If Biden had said this sign," but holy moly.
I'm under no illusion that they'll forget for half a second. He's made life more unsafe for all Americans for the next 50 years at least.
If he says it happened, it must be true. That's the way things work here in Wackyland.
"Heeee-eeeeey, Don Matttinglyyyyy! This Bud's for you!"
Cowering before the markets again? I'd laugh about TACO if he hadn't murdered so many people in the process of again confirming his ineptitude.
Paying taxes is great, actually, I love having roads and public services and programs that allow my neighbors to buy groceries. It’s too bad that Republicans steal these funds and send them to countries committing genocide and private companies with sweetheart contracts.
THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!
He may try to do this with Iran's gaseous uranium, which as I understand things, is about as promising a thing to attempt under combat conditions.
"Liberty enlightening the world?"
I'd be careful about inviting any Americans down just now. Our grasping fuhrer already has designs on the place and he just might take you up on the offer.
I wonder about the consequences of these things all the time, ones we don't even know about because no one was looking. Ex: In the 19th C, the Germans straightened the Rhine. Changed flooding patterns, eliminated wetlands, must have caused species loss. It's not as simple as buying a lot of shovels!
Can’t have student loan relief, can’t fund public education, can’t provide public healthcare, can’t build housing, can’t get a good job, can’t fund research to cure/treat illness and disease, can’t build green energy, can’t solve hunger and illness in the global south, but at least we can have this.
