Reading the article, it feels like there are enough steps between the company and the incident that I am not convinced they are culpable. But I guess that's why we have courts – to decide if the chain of events is closely enough linked to make it at least partly their fault.

Okay, but that sentence is fatuous glurge that doesn't really say anything that isn't trivially obvious - the kind of thing which doesn't require any creativity or insight.

But they clearly are Jewish. If Ben Shapiro or Ivanka Trump was around, I'd have no excuse to not count them in a minyan. I might not like it, but, oh well.

Naw. Jews who are idiots are idiots, but still Jews. I have never heard of anybody suggesting that Ivanka Trump is anything other than Jewish, for instance, and you'd figure that she would be the person most likely to be attacked as "not a real Jew."

It's not either/or.

And it's often both.

But I like the existence of fun, entertaining art which helps teach these skills. Sesame Street and Schoolhouse Rock for social, psychological, and mental health.

My current three favorite tools for thinking are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and there are getting to be more and more good-for-kids expressions of these things.

That's true. I am talking about the cats on one extreme of the bell curve. But the point is that that end of the bell curve exists, and that suggests stuff about the rest of the bell curve, too

Elsie and @maryrobinettekowal.com are the clearest example of this. Elsie will have a concept she wants Mary Robinette to understand, and the two of them will struggle for an hour until Mary Robinette understands. Or vice versa. They both are putting effort in, and meeting in the middle

I've mainly been watching the channels about cats, and one thing that is clear about the cats who use more complex concepts is that the button use creates a "language" which is a new thing, halfway between cat and human, and requiring a greater degree of understanding between both.

I don't thing the button use thing requires human traits. Indeed, one thing that they make clear is that cats and dogs do see the world differently than humans, and communication of complex thoughts requires understanding how they think.

But it also involves them understanding more about humans.

There are channels where different people show their pets' usage of buttons. Two cats who are worth following are Flounder, and most especially Elsie. Those are two cats who frequently use multiple button presses to express complex ideas, and it is fascinating to see how.

It gives more options. For instance, the animal can express that a specific body part hurts, or they want to play with a particular toy. What is really interesting is the cases where they use multiple buttons to express more complex thoughts which involve multiple parts.

I think you aren't realizing the complexity of the communication they are able to maintain, at least with the most advanced button-users. As Billi the cat got older and sicker, she was able to describe what hurt and how, for instance. Vets don't usually get to ask their patients about symptoms.

"I ain't stupid, I ain't expendable, and I ain't going."

What I see happening with the buttons is humans and animals trying to create a shared "language" which they can use to express concepts far more intricate than one would expect. It isn't human communication; it isnt animal communication, but it is something in between.
