A crochet blanket featuring British birds - against a swirling blue background of different colours of blue and grey, bringing to mind an English sky, there are eleven birds featured, all crocheted using a freeform, no-pattern technique. The birds are: mallard, kingfisher, heron, bullfinch, great tit, long-tailed tit, goldfinch, robin, magpie and green woodpecker (and the fact I could name them all from the way they're represented in yarn shows how brilliantly they've been crafted!)

My god, I just found this stunning freeform crochet blanket of British birds - every bird was created with no pattern and trial/error to get them looking right, and it's an absolute work of art 😍 I wish I had the skills, but alas, using patterns is all I'm able to do!

I had no idea about this connection! I have been researching the many forms of the Cailleach for a couple years and have an intense love of herons since the past year! blowing my mind that these two things are connected 🤩🤩🤩

this is beautiful

heron asks what the sea is like. how deep does it go. eel says, as deep as the sky is high.
heron remembers what has been forgotten. all creatures must live, and all creatures must die.

the eel tells heron who she is. a creature of night, she loves the reeds and sways as they do when the air above the river is warm. where you see the palm fronds, I see whales. trawlers nets. globules of white plastic, floating like fairies. glitter.

what do eel and heron talk about?
dreams. eels dreams, memories, childhood memories. trawlers and the screams of the squid. long expanses of silence, then low rumbling. cracking rock. the eyes of the shark, the shapes against the sunlit shallows. warm coastal currents, barren wastelands of seabed.
