THE VISTA: February 2026
In FebruaryΒ we celebratedΒ 100 years ofΒ BlackΒ History month,Β withΒ commemorationsΒ and invitations toΒ communities toΒ βreflect not only on the history itself, but on how the rituals of remembering have helped shape culture, identity, and national understanding of Black life.βΒ We alsoΒ joined in the joyfulΒ celebration of this yearβs Superbowl half-time show,Β withΒ Bad Bunnyβs Gift forΒ Multiplicity.Β βBad Bunny showed up with community,Β color, dance,Β musicΒ and chaos.Β ThatβsΒ why, when he ended his performance by sayingΒ seguimosΒ aquΓΒ (βweβre still hereβ), it felt like an insistence on showing up as our full selves, without leaving anything or anyone behind.βΒ
Check out the ideas, tools, and research grounding and inspiring us this month.

βThe pro-democracy movement has a lot of balls in the air right now. Itβs essential to clarify which are rubber and which are glass.
If we donβt keep our eye on the glass balls, we could see fundamental democratic safeguards shatter.
Attacks on womenβs fundamental rights are glass balls.β

Big fall-offs among all religious groups except Black Protestants - thus proving (as always) that everyone should listen to and understand Black theology, history, and ethics.

Never thought about the strategic use of chyrons by Trump & right-wing media. Then I read this by @ruthbraunstein.bsky.social & went to the gym. Saw 5 people on treadmills watching Fox or Newsmax on mute. So they don't get the rambling stupidity & ugliness. Just chyrons. ruthbraunstein.substack.com

Do 7 million people in the streets matter?
A Q&A with social movements scholar Ernesto CastaΓ±eda, and my thoughts on that heist
Participants were able to show they were not terrorists or anarchists. The marches were a success; they were peaceful, joyful & well-organized. But they were soon overtaken by other headlines. Yet, this won't be the end of these mobilizations. More here:

π₯π₯Our podcast When The Wolves Came is a Signal finalist for Best Documentary! It explores the extremist politics that have taken over US evangelical Christianity, and the pastors, congregants, and organizers who are pushing back in favor of a pluralist path. It is, as they say, relevant.
