The Kavanaugh Crisis in Minnesota is deliberate. By the best estimates, Minnesota has a relatively modest undocumented population. If deportations were the goal, ICE/CBP would be elsewhere. This is about:

A Black Noddy against the brilliant blue of the Pacific. Actually not black but almost totally a very dark brown apart from its white cap and grey brown tail. It has a longer, thinner black bill than the very similar Brown Noddy.

Great Shearwaters were frequently seen in the south Atlantic from the Sapphire Princess cruise to Antarctica. It was wonderful to see the intricacies of their plumage up close.

Ancient pine trees growing in eastern Spain have quietly recorded more than five centuries of Mediterranean weather. Analysis of tree rings clearly shows that todays storms and droughts are becoming more intense and more frequent than almost anything the region has experienced since the early 1500s.

A figure depicting continental drift from when Gondwana existed to present day, with continents and countries colored according to the ratite species that occur or occurred on them. Next to that is a cartoon of a phylogeny that we would expect support for if continental drift explained patterns of species occurrence and relatedness. And next to that is a cartoon of the phylogeny supported by the genetic data presented in this paper, which demonstrates that closely related species must have traveled great distances after Gondwana broke up, after which flightlessness evolved, and that this happened more than once.

This paper is a great for teaching phylogenetic trees.

Clearly written. It discusses hypotheses of relatedness among species via continental drift vs genetic data. πŸ§ͺ

Comparison the cost to drive an EV that gets 3.8 miles/kWh vs. fossil fuel cars over a range of MPG.

More energy use translates into greater cost to operate. The big difference in energy use is due to efficiency. Fossil fuel have much lower efficiency than battery electric cars. Most of the money you spend on gasoline is lost as waste heat and noise. Switch to an EV and save money. πŸ§ͺπŸ”ŒπŸ’‘β˜€οΈπŸ’¨πŸ’§πŸ”‹

For average fuel economy in the range of 32 to 44 MPG, an EV uses 3 to 5x less energy to drive the same distance. For gas guzzling performance cars, SUVs, or big truck, the difference can be as high as 14 to 16x greater.

If we select three example BEVs that span the range of efficiency available and compare how much energy they consume relative to fossil fuel cars the results are striking. A gas guzzling performance car, large SUV or truck may use 14-16x more energy than an EV. πŸ§ͺπŸ”ŒπŸ’‘β˜€οΈπŸ’¨πŸ’§πŸ”‹
