It pretends at fairness and equality, but invades our private and social life to dictate how we live our lives, where we are allowed to go, and indeed who we are allowed to play, compete, and ultimately share our lives with.

That invasion should be resisted wherever possible.

The exclusion of trans people from rowing in Cambridge is only one moment in a national attempt to segregate us from the rest of society. It did not start here and will not stop here.

We are a grassroots organisation of trans people in Cambridge, and we – unlike the University of Cambridge – care about inclusion, equality, and community.

This continues a now well-established pattern in which the University of Cambridge pretends to stand for intellectual exchange, democracy, and equality - but engages with its own students and staff through lies, deception, and threats.

Students have spoken up and shown that they want to play and compete with their trans fellow students, but are being strong-armed by the university to exclude them instead.

The University of Cambridge, rather than resisting the ongoing, nationwide campaign of exclusion & marginalisation of trans people in accordance with its professed principles of equality, diversity & inclusion has chosen to advance it through the shameful intimidation of undergrad student committees

We took this action because as of 25th October, trans rowers are no longer allowed to compete with their peers as they have for years, following a CUCBC vote to change the constitution in order to exclude trans people.

TLC AND FRIENDS DISRUPT CAMBRIDGE BOAT RACE

Here's our statement:
Today we disrupted the University IVs Regatta races, preventing most of the boats from competing. By putting out an inflatable boat into the water for the duration of the racing afternoon, we left rowers unable to race.

Nearby bus stops include Ditton Lane, Ekin Road and Newmarket Road. There is cycle- and limited car parking at the hall, and on-street parking on Peverel Road behind the centre.

We'll need lots of help to run this event, from morning til evening. Can you sort clothes, transport things by car, set up rails, or help pack away? Get in touch to make sure the event goes ahead!

We start with a whole-group icebreaker game of transJenga, with silly (optional) forfeits for losing the game. We break into smaller groups to chat, with a list of question prompts. Finally, boardgames! Feel free to bring your own game or (non-messy!) craft project to do while you chat.
