Interesting to read this quote as our nation backslides

“It is my hope that the day will come when individuals elected or appointed to office will be described by their qualifications and character, with no indication of gender, color, national origin, or religion. When such a day arrives, the United States will have achieved true maturity as a nation.”

There are few things I dislike more in a person, company, or other entity (ie nation) than hypocrisy.

I invite all Americans to join Minnesota in a day of unity tomorrow.

You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today.

This could be you.

I dislike them and hugs are probably unprofessional. I tried to get zen bows going during the height of the pandemic but it never caught on.

I just don’t love handshakes, we’re in 2025 and they feel so colonial.

US aware of reported death of American after beating by Israeli settlers The U.S. State Department said on Friday it was aware of the reported death of a U.S. citizen in the Israeli-occupied West Bank after reports emerged of Israeli settlers fatally beating a Palestinian American.

This is a kidnapping. No uniform, no badge, civilian car. Who are they?

ICE? Sanctioned bounty hunters? Either way, they’re grabbing people without warrants.

How often is this happening, and why aren’t more people talking about it? Congress?

In April, white oganizers with 50501 Los Angeles harassed Erik, a well-known and respected Black activist, calling the police on him because he would not move his Black Panthers merch table out of a public area away from their protest. After an uproar, 50501 LA organizers issued an apology.

I’m intrigued by this solution and have to admit I’m uneducated about it. Looking forward to researching Seoul’s governance structure.

I believe maybe this is the only way we can overcome the hate our species is plagued with. The popular literary trope of the laughing insane person, laughs for a reason.

I’m an absurdist because, despite all this, I’ll continue to fight for a better human condition, I’ll continue to fight for you, and for and with those who said that because I wasn’t there that day, because my fight was elsewhere, that I don’t matter.

It hurts but I’m get over it. Still, it further worries me that this os just gesturing on both sides. Ultimately it’s about who shouts the loudest, or who was where when, and not about our fellow humans, mot about human solidarity.

Proportionally, though, you had a choice to support someone who needed it in these fraught times. A choice I think proportionally could have gone farther.

I believe your support in this moment, in tougher situations than a rally full of friendlies, even at threat of physical violence, would go further towards making a change than one person in a sea of voices. (Don’t get me wrong, this is also important!)

Unfortunately there are others in the family who haven’t. I needed support this weekend more than most, which is why I reluctantly placed my trust in you, who said you’d be there to support me.

I cannot go to the No King protests this weekend - although I would if I could and I hope it goes without saying that I support the movement - because I am choosing instead to spend time with a family that has struggled to accept me as who I am, but ultimately has chosen to grow to accept me.

You are not supporting any movement by abandoning those who have stood by you, and held you up, through everything. We will only continue to repeat history if we only see in black and white.

Appreciate you shedding clarity on this. I hate that misinformation with intent to escalate tensions are coming from both sides.

To be clear, I’m not happy with what’s happening, but don’t think that dissenters should resort to the same hyperbole and misleading facts as those whom we’re rejecting.

To me, the note regarding the world cup, was more a message to those outside the city (esp the feds) as the World Cup is reflective of both the city and the nation. To me, the “this” in the statement you quoted referred to the deployment of the national guard and escalation by the fed govt.

I felt her comment that we (as the city of Los Angeles) accept you are no matter when you got here, and that she will not let her city by divided by immigration status, was the true message to LA residents, and a positive, powerful one.

Gonna toss this out here again.
