Wrt the tone, I think it's a combination of the turn-based games needing to lean into the wackiness because the gameplay would be extremely boring otherwise and forcing viral moments like Nugget in 0 (which infamously saved the series in the West)

Ever since 7 the series has gotten really bad about reviving characters who had no shot of surviving. In general it feels like Nagoshi leaving and Yokoyama taking charge has been for the worse, even if Nagoshi's games had their fair share of nonsense

you should buy Y0 before this btw; the Director's Cut is a markedly worse experience and isn't even done BY the director of Y0

One of the big issues with rereleases is that the games are already long as fuck. If I was a Persona 5 fan who spent 100+ hours in that game and ATLUS announced Royal + its lack of save transfer, it would've felt like a slap in the face. That's before you get into how people have less and less time

Even if you upgrade a digital copy, you can't transfer your saves to the current-gen version. What the hell is Sega smoking with these releases
