I believe there are three purposes for writing character backstories in TTRPG:

Important news: I have learnt how to make homemade miso soup, and my power over this realm is now endless.

Some of the best TTRPG sessions I've ever had were when unplanned inspiration or events struck. When I first started GMing games I tried to force the action and the drama, and I built set-pieces and events to try and shock and awe my group, who I saw as my audience.

But that's not the way to do it.

If you’re not rich or very lucky… you’re on your own

Good morning ☕️

There was a fox in my front yard this morning as I was getting ready to leave for work. I stared at it for a while and then it barked at me-or whatever you call the noise that a fox makes.

It was magical. 🧡

When you’re chronically ill, your world can be quite small.

People abandon you when you become disabled. When you can’t hide your pain.

The isolation can be just as hard as the illness… but please know you’re not alone.

None of us are ever alone. We are all fighters & this community has your back

If you're an indie creator, I expect the price of your ttrpgs, zines and comics to be higher than what I'd pay a bigger publisher for something similar. This will never stop me buying your cool stuff.

Charge proper prices for your hard work!

GM Tip: Prepare meaningful consequences for failure. A loss shouldn't be the end: it should open new story paths that are equally compelling to explore.

This is my favorite inn to drop into a game when the players are looking for a place to sleep for the night. It has plenty of seating and a large bar along with a gathering room on the second floor. Feel free to use this in your own games.
