Fig. 2 Marginal estimates of stigma-related attitudes (CAMI), knowledge (MAKS) and desire for social distance (RIBS intended behaviour), by year (95% confidence intervals).
CAMI, Community Attitudes toward the Mentally Ill scale; MAKS, Mental Health Knowledge Schedule; RIBS, Reported and Intended Behaviour Scale.
I've just come across this, published last year, and the findings are surprising and important
Public attitudes towards people with mental health problems improved from 2008 to 2019 - but then *decreased*. Found across three measures of stigma.
Why?

Trump 2.0: an assault on science anywhere is an assault on science everywhere
US President Donald Trump is taking a wrecking ball to science and to international institutions. The global research community must take a stand against these attacks.
Licenciements, gels de financements, censures, l'administration Trump lance depuis 1 mois des attaques sans précédent contre la science et les institutions de recherche, aux conséquences locales mais aussi mondiales.

NEW PAPER: What do teenage girls think is causing the rise in depression & anxiety in their demographic?
I was struck, during the analysis, about how often 'pressure' came up. Girls are under so much pressure to look and behave in certain ways 😔
Well done to Ola on her thoughtful leadership here

If we want to make Americans less reliant on smartphones, we have to address the problems of misery among all Americans. Parental stress reflects on children and young adults, who often witness all the ugly consequences of a cruel society and economy. Direct stresses on youth, enhanced by diminishing promises of a flourishing future, a sense of planetary demise, tightening social restrictions, educational failure, and the rise of public cruelty in real life and social media, demand a much more comprehensive—and political—approach than Haidt can offer with his laser-focus on phones. The danger of emphasizing a single cause for such a widespread and deadly problem is that there is a good chance we would fail to address the range of the real contributing factors.
This is a really thoughtful long-read about smartphones, Haidt, and the need for more curiosity about the recent rise in reported MH problems

Abstract
Accumulating evidence suggests that stigma is a pervasive and pernicious psychosocial phenomenon that affects people living with chronic pain. In this narrative review, we describe the nature of stigma experienced by people with chronic pain and discuss its multifaceted determinants. These determinants include features of pain itself and intersectional factors, including comorbid conditions and social marginalization. We review the current state of the evidence on the association between stigma and chronic pain-related functioning, highlighting avenues for future research. Building on evidence from other health conditions, we identify multifaceted approaches to intervention that address all levels of the socio-ecological system which contribute to stigma and its negative impacts on people with pain.
"The invisibility and subjectivity of pain in a biomedical culture that privileges visibility and objectivity has led many people with pain to experience stigma in the form of epistemic injustice"

1: Interesting paper on how anxiety-depression co-vary so much yet seem different in terms of prognosis in treatment for youth acamh.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1...
They end up attributing the differences to heterogeneity, co-morbidities, and more ill-defined therapies in depression
