Wirral has a very old history. Some people think the Vikings created and named everything on Wirral, when the reality is it was already inexistence, established in Prehistory.

Good to hear, so true of other generations. Years ago people, especially sailors still did. I guess if you grew up knowing such knowledge, it was second nature. Modern humans are not so in tune with the natural world.

πŸͺ¨Large Neolithic black flint core. The flake removal is in the style of Central Continental Europe, indicative of the Michelsberg Culture. Evidence of the first farmers migrating from Europe and settling in the interior of Wirral #FindsFriday #FlintFriday #Archaeology #Neolithic

Thank you. Very pleased to have found the pieces and share them with others. They are great insights as to how intelligent and creative humans have always been.

Pyrite - Wikipedia

Thank you, yes, I should really have just used 'pyrite' although it is the most common form, there are some other rarer varieties en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrite

πŸͺ¨A blustery but impromptu walk yesterday led to the discovery of something from the #Mesolithic tool kit in a new place. A backed blade made from fine grey chert, most likely sourced in North Wales, indicative of the Early Mesolithic in #Wirral c.10,000-8,000 BC.

❀️Love tokens? Two heart shaped lithics. First, polished pink granite, flat on reverse. Second a naturally occurring heart shaped piece of flint-collected for it's symbolic meaning? Age uncertain, Neolithic onwards.

That sounds brilliant. The first industrial revolution occurred in the Neolithic with the tool making workshops, and of course the flint mines. Then as now people moved/relocated near raw material sources and industry. Norfolk must be the Prehistory capital of Britain!

Yes, and flint is so beautiful because it preserves so well. It is very rare here in Wirral. The modified flint arrowhead posted today is the only arrowhead made from flint found in 8 years! (Apart from a couple of transverse). So really chuffed with this one.
