6) I wonder if this convergence holds any significance.

Probably not. I stopped looking for signs and wonders when I learned that life should be lived in the now, and not lost in the what if.

Of all the lessons the two Melvins tried to impart, this is the more important. Be thankful.

5) To say I miss him would be understatement. But even after a year of absence the reality hasn’t yet sunk in. I keep expecting one of Melvin’s out of the blue phone calls where we discuss everything and nothing, as brothers do.

4) A year ago to this day my brother Melvin followed Dad into the wings and beyond. I owe him for the gift of music, guiding my early days of guitar and all that followed.

3) This Thanksgiving Day of November 28th is a convergence of sorts.

Today would have been Dad’s 98th birthday. He exited our shared stage 14 years ago and I miss him still.

2) But today I’m giving thanks for two men who held vital import in my life, my father Melvin (Sr.) and my brother Melvin (Jr.).

Beyond the obvious familial roles, they both taught me much (as much what TO do as well as what NOT to do).

1) Today is Thanksgiving, my favorite holiday. It’s Christmas without expectations of giving and receiving. For me, it’s the joy and frustration and volume of our tribe gathering in one place. We are weird and wonderful in double measure, and I am thankful.
