It's UK National Coffee Day. So, here's a little cup of 17th Century coffee.

Sunday morning read! As it is not the anniversary of the Great Fire of London, I decided to write about it, but not about the usual stuff we hear all the time...

The City this week. Making a photo log of St Helen's Tower, aka the Commercial Union Building, 1 Undershaft, & the Dark Tower. It's coming down, been empty for some time, hoarding gone up, & "Hymacs" replaced the skaters. Long shadows are cast by the Lloyd's & WTW buildings.

Was in Cambridge this week, before the storm came. It felt like I had the place to myself.
Happy New Year.

I love this time of year. Not just Christmas, but mid-winter. The darkness, the shadows, the historic houses (I've worked in) at this time of the year. And I love the lights that come with it, around houses, on trees, lighting up stairs.
Merry Christmas "One and All."

We're getting close to Mid-Winter.

Dirty water, cholera, maps, stats and Dr John Snow. Snow's famous for the Broad Street Map of Soho, but he carried out another study that was far more compelling that proved the Mode of Communication of Cholera was water - the Grand Experiment.

It's been cold and grey this week. I've even taken to wearing gloves.

I almost spat my tea across the train carriage when I saw my name in a document dating from December 1419.

To prove my earlier point about St. Paul's reflecting the mood the City of London, I took this in very low light, the Cathedral wasn't lit up, and on an antiquated Android phone, a few years ago. It was dark, cold and shadows lurked in all the alleyways.

St Paul's last week (I chopped the steps off to take out the clutter). I love the way the cathedral reflects the mood of the day - this one being cold, bright and crisp.
