My message to Kristi Noem is clear: Get out of Chicago.

In Illinois, we will do everything within our power to look out for our neighbors, uphold the Constitution, and defend the rule of law.

I will not call up our National Guard to further Trump’s acts of aggression against our people.

State, county, and local law enforcement have been working together and coordinating to ensure public safety around the Broadview ICE facility, and to protect people’s ability to peacefully exercise their constitutional rights.

I want to be clear: there is no need for military troops on the ground in the State of Illinois.

None of it was in pursuit of justice, but all of it was in pursuit of social media videos.

Yesterday, Kristi Noem’s and Greg Bovino’s masked agents threw chemical agents near an elementary school, arrested elected officials exercising their First Amendment rights, and raided a Wal-Mart.

This demand follows unprecedented escalations of aggression against Illinois citizens and residents.

They will pull hardworking Americans out of their regular jobs and away from their families all to participate in a manufactured performance -- not a serious effort the protect public safety. For Donald Trump, this has never been about safety. This is about control.

In the coming hours, the Trump Administration intends to federalize 300 members of the Illinois National Guard.

This morning, the Trump Administration’s Department of War gave me an ultimatum: call up your troops, or we will. It is absolutely outrageous and un-American to demand a Governor send military troops within our own borders and against our will.

I bet over the next few weeks you see more leaks coming out of the Pentagon about Hegseth’s unfitness for his role. More efforts to slow him down and get info to the public. Yes things are bad - but let’s not pretend this is some sort of brilliant strategy bc it’s really not.

It’s really the first rule of leadership in any position - you don’t get people to follow you just because you’re the boss. You need them to trust, respect and like you. What do you think this little unhinged insult fest is doing with Hegseth’s popularity amongst his top brass? Not anything good.

So putting aside the outrage - let’s talk for a minute why this is such bad strategy for Hegseth and Trump. If you want to expand your authoritarian creep & get people who have sworn oaths to the Constitution to ignore them - well you need them to like you first.

I know so many women in the military who had to be better than their male colleagues to get promoted - accepted every bit of misogyny to serve & serve well. To hear this sexist asshole who can’t even properly do a pull up malign their service is renewing my determination to fight. We deserve better.

Pritzker: "People of Illinois, we need your help. Get our your cell phones, record and narrate what you see. Put it on social media. Peacefully ask for badge numbers and identification. Speak up for your neighbors. We need to let the world know that this is happening and that we won't stand for it."

Gov. Pritzker said that ICE and Border Patrol activity in Chicago and Broadview was about "creating a pretext to send armed military troops into our communities" and "about consolidating power in Donald Trump's hands." More plainly, he labels it authoritarianism.

Getting a lot of "those numbers are shockingly high" responses. No, they aren't! They're terrible! They're historically low this early in a presidential term. Stop actively looking for ways to persuade yourselves that Trump is invincible.

LOL when was Rand Paul last IN Chicago. If my boss went on TV and said something disparaging about Kentucky in this vein, oh the pearl clutching from the pundits. We should treat GOP disdain for large blue cities with the same breathlessness with which the deplorable comment was covered.
