what makes it work for software engineering is that its responses are immediately verified (by both compiler/interpreter and, hopefully, someone who knows what good code looks like) so when it outputs something whacky you know right away and can reframe your query.

there is a lot of very important criticism that can and should be levied at AI and AI companies, but denying their actual capability seems like a major blind spot that undermines a more grounded critique JUST SAYIN

i see a lot of criticism of LLMs on here that center the premise that they are useless and unreliable and while there are domains where this is undoubtedly true, in my own area of expertise (software engineering) i can say with certainty that current gen LLMs are extraordinarily capable.
