Please spread the word to any aspiring crime-writers out there. The competition will be judged by award-winning authors. Might be a kickstart to someone's career.

It’s release day for this beautiful anthology. I’m so excited to have a short story alongside these amazing authors.

The D20s are a group of authors who all debuted during lockdown. We have stuck together through ups and downs.

Thank you @phillipaeast

an extract from the blog:

“An Interview With Phillippa East

Have you always wanted to be a writer and what inspired you to write?

Looking back, I think it’s obvious that writing was the perfect path for me, but I didn’t realise that for a long time. As a child (and now), I read copiously and always wanted to be around books. I used to do quite a bit of creative writing at school, but that fell off my radar when I began to pursue a career in clinical psychology. I didn’t return to writing until I was 30, when I had a week off in between changing NHS jobs. I got the first line of a story in my head… and decided to write a novel (as one does). That novel is consigned to the “drawer” (bin), but working on it gave me the passion for writing fiction. When I later began to get short stories published and placed in competitions, I realised that maybe I could do this seriously.

Is there anyone In particular that helped to shape your dream of becoming a writer?

Maybe I’d have to blame my parents! I grew up without a TV until the age of about 11, and this was in the 80s when basically every family had a telly. For some reason my parents just never thought we needed one! I’ve been left with weird holes in my pop-culture knowledge as a result, but the huge positive benefit is that I read all the time as a child, and haven’t stopped since. I feel as though I absorbed books and stories straight into my DNA, and I think becoming a writer has ultimately been born out of that.
Since I began writing seriously, I have to thank my lovely Writing East Midlands mentor Judith Allnatt, my brilliant agent Sarah Hornsley and – of course – the D20 authors!”

A picture on the short story collection UnBound plus a second extract from the blog:

“What made you decide to put together a short story collection with the D20 Authors?

In 2020, our cohort of debut authors published our very first books during a global pandemic – a terrible time to release a debut! The silver lining was that we banded together to support and encourage each other and over the next few months and years, each other and develop a number of group projects. Eventually, we hit on the idea of a short story anthology to share our collective talents. That became our first short story anthology, UnLocked, and we were overwhelmed by the response, with glowing reviews, fantastic sales and a CWA Dagger shortlisting for one of the pieces. As a result, despite the blood, sweat and tears of producing an anthology, we decided to create this second collection, UnBound, and we are delighted to now release this to the world.”
