And the momentum continued today at #DigiHealthDays 2025 with the session: “Accelerating Interoperability Competence through Innovation”, hosted by Prof. Anne Moen and Simon Lewerenz, with contributions from Laurea, EFMI, Universidade do Porto, and @chronaki.bsky.social from @hl7europe.bsky.social.

The day closed with a #publicsession at the Deggendorf Institute of Technology, reflecting on XiA’s role within the broader #EHDS / #EEHRxF landscape and its connections with other EU initiatives (#XpanDH, xShare,Xt-EHR, SHAIPED, @i2xproject.bsky.social, myHealth@myHands, …).

Key outcomes of the workshops:
• aligning upcoming XiA #training #modules with real stakeholder needs
• refining #personas to guide pedagogical priorities
• reviewing the first draft of the XiA #curriculum
• shaping the #microcredential strategy

⚡ XiA Consortium Meeting — a powerful day together!

It is near the geographical centre of the #EU in Pfarrkirchen 🇩🇪, the XiA project held its first annual Consortium Meeting since the launch meeting in February.

A full day dedicated to strengthening #interoperability skills for the future #EHDS.

The day will conclude with an #OpenSession inviting all interested in the #EHDS to join the discussion on digital health education and interoperability. Join us and help shape the future of interoperability training in Europe!

This Consortium Meeting takes place just before the #DigiHealthDay 2025 organised by the Technische Hochschule Deggendorf where XiA sponsors a strong panel titled “Accelerating Interoperability Competence through Innovation” from 10:00 to 11:15.

It will also be an occasion to reinforce cooperation with associated partners and European digital health actors, leveraging the presence of many contributors onsite and online to move forward together.

It will bring together XiA partners from across Europe for a collaborative working day: aligning XiA’s training offer with stakeholder needs,advancing curriculum and preparing for content development,shaping the approach to EU micro-credentials,strengthening communication and visibility towards 2026

This meeting marks a key moment to review progress, adjust priorities where needed, and prepare the next phases of the initiative with a shared understanding across the consortium.

The initiative will also help identify gaps in digital health interoperability skills and competencies, and address them by drawing on SNOMED International’s best practices for educational content, ensuring that learners are well prepared to support EHDS-aligned interoperability goals.

Through this arrangement, XiA which works to close the skills gap in advanced #digitalhealth interoperability across the #EHDS and #EEHRxF can now reuse material from the SNOMED CT Foundation Course under open licences and share it via an open educational repository.

If we don’t have professionals both healthcare staff who grasp the clinical impact and IT experts who master the legal, technical and semantic layers of interoperability we simply won’t have enough people to build, run and maintain the system we want in four to six years.

Most European projects on digital health and the EHDS focus on implementation adopting the European exchange format and preparing for secondary data use. What’s missing is workforce preparation.

🇪🇺 As the only European capacity-building project in this year’s selection, XiA focuses on developing the interoperability skills required to implement the European Health Data Space (EHDS) through innovative learning experiences, micro-credentials and hands-on Educathons.

This report captures the strategic direction, systemic challenges, and transformative potential of 12 EU-funded digital health initiatives. Each of these projects contributes to building a more connected, secure, and sustainable European digital health ecosystem, and others

Conceived as a policy-facing and innovation-oriented resource for both project consortia and decision-makers, the report aims to support alignment, sustainability, and long-term impact through actionable insights.
