If Epstein is Trending, Why Isn’t +1.7°C? The news cycle has become a hall of mirrors: Epstein, Trumpism, war, outrage, retribution. A thousand scandals designed to keep us anxious, tribal, and tired. We have to hold multiple truths at once: ...

"This is the hard truth I want to land: climate does not care what’s trending. It’s not interested in Jeffrey Epstein, Gaza, or Greenland. There is no algorithmic mercy. Physics is physics, and it is getting more abrupt."

I’m old enough to remember when CBS News would never have surrendered to a demagogic president or any other politician. Remember Edward R. Murrow?

Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?

The Walton family (who own Walmart) are worth over $400 billion, yet many of their employees are on SNAP.

Bezos is worth over $400 billion, many Amazon employees require SNAP.

The people who need help are not the problem.

It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.

NEW: For the last several months, I have written and spoken regularly about the rise of authoritarianism in the United States. This is not something I ever envisioned for myself — and it is certainly not something my ancestors envisioned for their great grandchildren.

Comic. [Two people on shore looking at body of water] PERSON 1: Hey, where’s that big island we were looking at this morning? PERSON 2 with short hair: Oh, it’s underwater. The ocean’s depth here goes up and down by like ten feet every day. PERSON 1: What? PERSON 2: It’s because the planet has a big moon orbiting near the surface. It causes weird gravity effects. PERSON 1: *What???* [caption] People here are used to them, but tides are one of the weirdest and most sci-fi elements of life on Earth.

Yesterday we visited Green Mountain Falls, CO to visit the kinetic sculpture Off the Beaten Path by Patrick Shearn. I wasn’t ready for just how dynamic it was even in the slightest breeze. Reminds me of a murmuration of starlings. Incredible artwork. It’ll only be up through October 19th.

NASA chief to defy agency's charter, terminating science NASA's 1958 charter's top priority was, "the expansion of human knowledge of phenomena in the atmosphere and space." Is this how it ends?

Just another yes-man lackey who doesn’t care about the history or the mission of the agency he was appointed to lead. He could never do the job of any of us at the agency so he sees no issue with destroying it.

Cabri & McDonald examined the data for ezochiite and shiranuiite and argue they represent varieties of cuprorhodsite, ideally CuRh2S4.

They’re planning on building a detention center for migrants in the middle of the fetid swamps of Florida.

If you think this is something new, the first internment camp they sent me and my family to in 1942 was a barbed wire prison called Rohwer. It was located in the swamps of Arkansas.

How a Pittsfield tavern contributed to America’s first offensive victory in the Revolutionary War — and why it still matters 250 years later Two and a half centuries ago, in a Pittsfield tavern, three men discussed plans for a secret raid that would become America’s first offensive victory in the Revolutionary War. On

“One attendee, arrived straight from a protest.

‘And it was no accident,’ he said.

‘These two events are connected. I can protest because of the sacrifices and the vision people like John Brown had all the way at our country’s beginning’...”
