I just uploaded the next batch of sketchpages on Patreon. And I probably gonna lock in on this thing for the next weeks until end of April. I can fall into despair again after this thing is finished |D Or maybe I look for a retraining. We'll see.

What a week. My mind is still clouded with existential dread, financial issues and for the first time in forever seriously pondering whether I still wanna stay self-employed. So.. I did the only reasonable thing - continue working on a lil comic :D Wich I intend to release for CSE in June.

Got some bad news jobwise. Lost a gig very short-term I counted with and need to figure out how the next months will go now. Really blows.

Yeah definately. I agree. I used that term because not on the original post but overall this is a resentment I came across here and there. "If its good enough people (magically) gonna buy the print/book/whatever." Well maybe... but only if its there.

I get that. I had to adjust tiers here and there as well, when interest changed. Currently I am actually working on a short project no one initial came for, but I communicated in advance, that I'll do that for a while and it was okay.

Ja will da adden. Man hat natürlich ein bisschen mehr zeitliche Verpflichtung. Wenn man sagt. Da kommt x update im Monat, dann muss das auch kommen. Aber das passt sich eben deinem Rhytmus an. Wichtig ist imo nur eine klare Kommunikation was man kann - und wenns nur ein Tippjar ist auch fein.

Glaube schon - dein Comic ist ja der Patreon. Jetzt in meinem Fall, ich mache bis auf ein monatliches Stickerdesign, was aber auch in mein routierendes Sortiment geht nichts extra. Alles andere was meine Patreons bekommen sind Sachen, die ich für den Comic so und so mache. Skizzen, Seiten etc.

Ja, das ist ja dann dein Job - das ist die Idee. Weil die Zeit, die du sonst an andere Aufträge verlierst aktiv in deine Comicarbeit steckst - die der Patreon supportet. Man darf halt imo nicht überversprechen, aber das gilt für alles. Die Rewards passen sich entsprechend dem Supportlevel an.

This! It's only asking - no one is forced to support you and we are not entitled for support. But there is nothing wrong in asking and/or making a offer. I don't feel bad when some one buys my comic - it a cool thing. :D Why should I feel bad about Patreon. (And yeah... hit me too... <D)

Nothing I should be afraid or shamed off, neither should you. Nothing gained just because you did it all by yourself. If anything it makes your art better.

I just have to. One could say "Just make better art" so it will pay itself. But I dont think its a quality issue, but a time and eyes issue. If I need longer to finish a piece/project attentions shifts sales/support drops and it takes even longer. So asking for Patreon (or and other) support is 3/4

I do have a Patreon and I openly ask for support there (and tbh way to less). Because my believe always is, with more support I could do more. I'd never stop creating but reality is, as long as I am not financle stable time I always will go to the things which pay my rent and not to my art. 2/4
