Creature of the day I think. Pyrrhidium sanguineum (Welsh Oak Longhorn Beetle). At first glance, looks like one of the Cardinal Beetles, but distinctly different with a closer look.

From burger wrappers to masks, bird nests tell story of throwaway culture
Nests on Amsterdam canals provide archive of plastic waste and show how the material โis really here to stayโ
โIt really shows that itโs not just us humans who are writing history, but also these birds are taking notes, keeping a score and then documenting our throwaway society,โ www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Amazon rainforest cut down to build highway for COP climate summit
The infrastructure required to host climate talks in Belรฉm is undermining the cause, campaigners say.
On top of total capture of COP by the fossil fuel industry, we now have "Amazon forest felled to build road for climate summit."
At what point do we acknowledge what is now plainly obvious: that this is not the solution, but a big part of the problem, a coverup for BAU?

Controlled-release fertilizers can spread microplastics on US cropland โ study
Tiny bits of plastic can end up in water and soil at alarming levels, said lead author of University of Missouri paper
โSome of the controlled-release fertilizer pieces are less than five millimeters in size, which makes them microplastics by definition. But once they are in the soil, they โbreak down into tiny, tiny particlesโ www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Trump orders swathes of US forests to be cut down for timber
Presidentโs move to expand tree cutting across 280m acres evades rules to protect endangered species
โClearcutting these beautiful places will increase fire risk, drive species to extinction, pollute our rivers and streams, and destroy world-class recreation sites.โ Trumpโs timber order is based on nothing but lies, greed, hatred, and monumental ignorance.

Hundreds Are Said to Resign From NOAA (Gift Article)
The resignations came a day after a wave of firings at the agency, a world center of climate research.
NOAA is literally getting decimated:
โThe two rounds of departures together represent about 10 percent of NOAAโs roughly 13,000 employees.โ

The mass firing of both new hires and recently promoted senior staff within #NOAA, including mission-critical and life-saving roles at the National Weather Service (#NWS), is profoundly alarming.

With just 5 years to go, the world is failing on a vital deal to halt biodiversity loss
All countries must accelerate efforts to avert the biodiversity crisis, and preserve Earthโs precious natural places for future generations.
With just 5 years to go, the world is failing on the Global Biodiversity Framework to conserve and restore biodiversity.
"In fact, we're actively destroying biodiversity faster than ever in human history."
