We read Tolkien to our kids (now 25, 20) when they were young. Both love Tolkien but not the way we did. It was more something they shared with us than discovered for themselves

My daughter (turns 20 today) LOVED The Belgariad. She read it/them several times. Now they sit on her shelf more as a reminder of a dear friend than something she actively reads.

It was 8 miles and I hadn't realized it was up and down for a total 500' elevation change. Don't misunderstand, I LOVED the hike!! It just took longer than anticipated and I ended up in full sun. I would do it again in a heartbeat but I would take more water and a hiking staff.

Likely would have been easier had I not forgotten I was hiking west of the Mississippi and while I had plenty of water for the conditions on the East Coast, hiking in August in CA at that elevation I needed double the amount of water I had. The pamphlet said 500' elevation, 5 miles. 1/
