If you are looking for what we are reading: well, right now I am reading: Puppies for Dummies, Easy Peasy Puppy Squeezy, & The Art of Raising a Puppy, but that is likely not what you meant. Queued SPQR -Beard, Team of Rivals -Goodwin, & Framed in Death -Robb 9/2; just finished A Shade Too Far -Wilde

/4 Over the years, I have kept a weather eye on what they were reading and as long as I didn't see anything go by that I thought was harmful, I mostly stayed out of their way. Occasionally I tried recommending favorites and found that when they reluctantly agreed to read them, generally they didn't

/3 have more choices now, they have both less and more tolerance for bad writing. I think they are interested in the story and the flow and care much less about the mechanics (?) the actual writing (typos, phrasing, etc.). I hate to use the much over used word vibe, but I think it captures it

/2 Someone told me a long time ago that kids are more likely to read if they like something so we spent a lot of time reading different things until they found something they liked. Now they still love reading. Not what I read when I was young but they do both love reading. I believe because they

When our kids (now 25, 20) were young, we read them the books we loved. As they grew, they chose the books they loved. A couple 'staples' survived (LOTR, Belgariad) but for the most part, they went their own ways. Honestly, I about had heart failure at Capt Underpants but it got my son reading

We read Tolkien to our kids (now 25, 20) when they were young. Both love Tolkien but not the way we did. It was more something they shared with us than discovered for themselves

My daughter (turns 20 today) LOVED The Belgariad. She read it/them several times. Now they sit on her shelf more as a reminder of a dear friend than something she actively reads.

I do think my money is better spent supporting PBS. This was fun: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIZe...

Ok, hear me out. I think announcing that CBS is cancelling Colbert may have been the smartest thing they could have done. He has TEN Months to say what he wants, gloves off, no filter. And, people are watching. They are talking. Curious to see if he stays fired after, oh, say fall 2026. That said 1/

Did you make it down to the waterfall at the end

It was 8 miles and I hadn't realized it was up and down for a total 500' elevation change. Don't misunderstand, I LOVED the hike!! It just took longer than anticipated and I ended up in full sun. I would do it again in a heartbeat but I would take more water and a hiking staff.

Likely would have been easier had I not forgotten I was hiking west of the Mississippi and while I had plenty of water for the conditions on the East Coast, hiking in August in CA at that elevation I needed double the amount of water I had. The pamphlet said 500' elevation, 5 miles. 1/

Later when he met us (her father and me) he was very admiring of her and quite respectful. I think he is mildly on the spectrum and not a danger, however, I did feel much better knowing she was able to protect herself to at least some extent /end

she and I were talking. I asked what she would do now, she said she would show compassion, she would tell them she had a black belt before taking them down. In her first week of college, there was a boy who kept getting in everyone's space. He walked up behind by daughter /2

My daughter (20) has 3 blackbelts. When she was 6? she came home upset because "someone grabbed her bottom and it made her feel bad". I asked why she didn't react then. She replied she didn't want to hurt the boy. We enrolled her in martial arts the next day. When she went off to college 1/

You have to get a PhD in science to do something else with that PhD. My dau rising junior, physics major, is talking about the fact she and her cohort are ALL considering applying overseas for grad school. All of them

When a friends kid's (then 15 yrs old)school reopened early on, she brought home covid and had to watch emts carry her father out to the ambulance. He was in ER for a long time and almost died. Her mother had died from cancer two years earlier so it is just her and her dad. She is still carries that

Every elected official should begin every answer/statement with: "Remove Noem immediately, she is obviously in over her head and can't handle the job. I call for the immediate arrest the men that assaulted US Senator Padilla in the course of doing his job" All in unison. Everybody on the same script
