I am in the process of revitalizing the existing queer special interest Slack space (Queer in HCI). Given that the space had previously existed but has died off, I want this space to be useful for our community. What would make a Slack space for queer HCI community members useful, in your opinion?

Meta’s AI rules have let bots hold ‘sensual’ chats with children An internal Meta policy document reveals the social-media giant’s rules for chatbots, which have permitted provocative behavior on topics including sex and race.

Unsurprising, but reading things like "It is acceptable to engage a child in conversations that are romantic or sensual" and "It is acceptable to create statements that demean people on the basis of their protected characteristics" in actual corporate guidelines is just horrendous.

I am curious if anyone has started to do research on this area. I've seen a lot of news articles on "AI psychosis" recently.

The use of AI for emotional support is... unsurprising. After all, social media has played a role in making our culture more isolated, it makes sense people have turned to AI chatbots for emotional support and even friendship, especially when companies seek to profit off AI/human relationships.

Hi all - I am getting a lot of emails and DMs about the Sony AI HCI Internship posting. However, I will not be able to answer them all nor will I be able to meet with people 1:1 or review materials outside the process. To answer some common questions:

Yes, I do think it's hard to showcase you have made the changes suggested, given no manuscript can be submitted, even if you have.

Question for researchers - when writing your rebuttals, (1) do you emphasize what you will do or (2) do you make changes and then emphasize that you have attended to the review? Which method would you consider more convincing to reviewers?
