Now I'm imagining a puzzle type game with gacha mechanics where you collect all of the Cenobites by figuring out puzzles ala The Room.

I remember Morrowind looking different.

It's a smaller indie game, but Dread Delusion definitely has a Morrowind vibe to it.

One game that hasn't been mentioned, that I remember playing a lot on the Apple ]['s that our school had was "Rocky's Boots". Looking back, circuitry diagrams and logic gates were a bit advanced for 9 year old me, but I remember really enjoying it.

I played this back in the day on my old 8086 running at 8 or 11Mhz (depending if the TURBO button was pressed). I remember beating that game, but trying it out now in emulation, it's frustrating as hell to play. I guess I had a lot of patience, or boredom, back then.

Sounds like you just described most of the SteamVR home environments.

Can't say I've beaten them all, some I've only played for a few hours at most, but still.

I remember having one of those. I also remember moving the base more than the joystick while I was playing anything. There was one game, Kenseiden, where you had a special ability if you pressed diagonally, and I could never get that to work with my joystick. Worked fine with the gamepad, though.

I mean, let's be real for a moment. No one is going to buy an XBox to play Outer Worlds 2. I liked the first game, but if it was a console exclusive, I wouldn't end up buying it, and that's money that MSFT would be losing out on.

A game that no one ever mentions is Baito Hell 2000/Work Time Fun. It was a collection of macro-games. You can play a game where you cap pens forever, or search for golf balls, or control the temperature of a pottery kiln, or make dango, etc. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Work_Ti...

Man, just that UI brings back a lot of memories. For some reason, remembering booting into Workbench 1.3 reminds me of a specific smell of old plastic and hot circuits. Also SCSI nightmares.
