There's a very good chance that economic pressure just might turn out to be too much for his liking. That being said, it doesn't help that the Senate map in 2026 actually favors Republicans structurally and the Democratic party is in no good shape either.

The war with Iran might've been such an event as in the US (starting) wars have been largely popular. However I have a feeling this one might not play to his favor, considering that nobody understands what exactly he's trying to achieve.

Historical research suggests that approval ratings within 6-12 months of a midterm are actually quite strongly correlated with outcomes — there's much less time for the kind of recovery that might otherwise be expected. So basically, Trump has less than just 2-3 months to come up with a miracle.

Historically, the president's approval rating is one of the strongest predictors of midterm outcomes. The rough rule of thumb is that presidents below net ~0% approval lose House seats — and at -19% net, that's deep into the danger territory.

Trump's net approval rating during his 2nd term is now statistically significantly trending lower than during his 1st term, which is a small miracle considering that he was already the least liked president in history 😂. The speed of decline is also remarkable.
