If you truly just don't have time for the OG, I would def recommend watching the final episode or two at least, because 97 picks up basically right from there and it's helpful for context iirc

You can def just jump in if you want, but tbh, the OG slaps. It's dated obvs, and the last short season is ROUGH because it was made very last-minute, but it's genuinely a banger of a show. It's one of the few older cartoons the missus actually loved, it's just that good haha
