this is the entomology of the word

it's not ideal, though ...

08.12.2025 21:02 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0BTW, if you're experimenting in RetroArch, to undo a shader simply set Shader Passes to 0 and Apply Changes to clear the current one and then you can load other presets
08.12.2025 21:01 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0will return to this later with more experimenting. I prefer CRT shaders these days and while I'm not insistent that you yourself should use them, I urge you to give them a try with different games
I think especially for old school horror the blending and softening does wonders
crt-hyllian-ntsc
crt-hyllian-sync-composite
crt-hyllian-ntsc actually seems to do a better job of blending, but also seems to wash out the color a bit?
(sorry, forgot to mention, check alt text for labeling on all these)
no shaders
crt-caligari
crt-royale
crt-hyllian-sync-composite
watching that CRT video and it got me to load up Sonic 2 and check the waterfall with various shaders. will do more testing later, but so far looks like crt-hyllian-sync-composite is a winner with subtle horizontal scanlines and proper vertical blending

07.12.2025 20:45 โ ๐ 534 ๐ 190 ๐ฌ 13 ๐ 4Linux isn't really a thing I think a lot of us know in whole, just the pieces that help us integrate it into the portions of our lives where we need it. one bit at a time
08.12.2025 18:05 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0np, I do hope it helps some! I think a big part of what comes next is learning how to gracefully fumble through this together (all of us, that is)
I work in IT and the thing I want to convince people most is that often I know very little BUT how to find the answers
I do think it was more desirable to keep NTFS support separate due to its association with Microsoft until recently when it was conceded as easing a pain point for onboarding people
08.12.2025 17:49 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Linux can be intimidating at first, I for sure don't know all this stuff, but you get a general feel for it which makes finding and pulling threads easier
most things are files that you can open up and directly configure if you know where to look (or what to search for to point you the way)
I see from your other post you got it solved. taking a guess, the modern file explorers try to bridge this gap for you (is it Dolphin?)
/etc/fstab mounts it on the OS level, so things that don't directly use the file explorer or its file picker may still have issues seeing the drive
this is what adding entries to the /etc/fstab file are for (File System TABle)

been awhile since I've done it, but this should be the primary thread to pull

old portables (GB through Vita) are absolute peak because they understood and designed around the NEED to be put down at any moment instead of the absolute fucking opposite of never letting your attention span go $#&@! ๐คฌ
07.12.2025 20:59 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0the PSP's need for portability still limited the scope and innovated through that constraint
Switch 1&2 are honestly too much power that bring all the negatives of the modern console experience into the portable space
all my "I'll do it laters" catching up to me
that wasn't part of the deal! the deal is I do what I want and suffer no consequences???
yeah. still unclear to me if 3 is particularly hard in the series, but just general understanding of game mechanics seems to do
my tactics:
1. fuse like crazy to collect 'em all
2. use the ones I think are particularly sexy/spiffy
3. grind a little if 1&2 somehow fail me
I just saw this on a twitch stream and think I'm in love

map screen from Shin Megamit Tensei: Strange Journey Redux (3DS) showing a portion of a dungeon with many damaging floor tiles that only would've been mapped out if I had purposefully walked over them
did you seriously walk all across that damaging floor just to map it out when there was a clear and intentional path around it?
oh you know it!
FINALLY! RetroArch upgraded to 1.22.2 in the repos and that freaking Wayland/Vulkan issue is fixed. been waiting for that to hit since it was corrected in nightlies all the way back in September
