It used to be that a "dot gov" website was a trusted resource. But that is NO LONGER THE CASE.

There was a post circulating saying that an agreement was signed to move special education from the department of education to the department of health and human services.

Education Department spokeswoman Madi Biedermann told the Washington Post that *NO such agreement has been signed*

As the day ends and the deadline passes for universities to respond to Trump's "Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education," Vanderbilt and University of Texas never responded.

Penn, Brown, USC, Dartmouth, University of Virginia, University of Arizona, and MIT all rejected it

BREAKING: University of Arizona becomes the latest university to reject Trump's proposed loyalty oath that would ask universities to trade academic freedom for preferential funding.

Today is the deadline for universities to respond. We are waiting on University of Texas and Vanderbilt.

Reminder: The latest cuts to the department of education have been PAUSED (not stopped) because the cuts are related to the firing of federal workers and THOSE were paused.

A lot of people/orgs are not reporting this accurately because they’re a few days behind.

We will learn more on 10/28.

Defendants are going to file a list of everyone who was RIFed within two days.

“It would be helpful if those documents were filed by people who know what they’re talking about” - A summary of what the Judge said.

As of RIGHT NOW 11:30 AM Pacific time, the RIFs are STOPPED until further notice.

No more RIF notices, the RIFs issued cannot be enforced or continued. Federal employees are no longer allowed to WORK on RIFs.

The defense’s argument is “you can fix this later” & the plaintiff is like “losing your healthcare is not something you can just fix later”

(Some employees being RIFed are pregnant & about to give birth & are afraid of losing their healthcare but HR has been fired too so nobody can help them)

The administration fired the people working on measles outbreaks at HHS and then tried to blame it on “an error”

The plaintiffs say the president and OMB (Russell Vought) yapping is the proof that these RIFs are happening and should be stopped.

They never shut the fuck up about what they’re doing, so we KNOW more cuts are coming.

The defense is now trying to argue that the court shouldn’t be able to stop the RIFs because the RIFs aren’t done being issued and there are not final numbers of how many people were RIFed. (RIFed = fired) ……………

They’re arguing that there is not “irreparable harm” for these employees because the fired employees can just sue in lower courts and be told “sorry we can’t help” and then appeal to a different court.

It’s not gonna fly. The judge is talking to her like she’s crazy.

She says they “don’t have a defense for why it is okay to do what they are doing.”

They came to court unprepared.

Right out the gate: the judge says she wants to agree with the plaintiffs that these RIFs were illegal.

I'm currently listening to the hearing regarding the (possibly illegal) firings of federal employees. Those fired include basically the entire office of special education programs.
