If art is a car

Motivation/Inspo= key in the ignition

Discipline= Gas

No key? Car no start
No gas? No vroom

I’ve found having that mindset has actually helped me work on, and actually finish, art way more than anything else.

Have a dad-like metaphor-

Sometimes you just gotta sit down and draw. Doodle first, sketch something, then move to the big piece. Have music or a podcast going, but waiting for inspiration/motivation to align the stars ain’t gonna help. You gotta sit down and say ‘I’m gonna work on this piece today’.

It’s ✨discipline✨ that gets you actually finishing a piece, but because that doesn’t sound pretty and whimsical it gets left at the door.

I’ve had plenty of art block days. Days I just didn’t want to draw and that A-OK. Fr it’s totally fine.

But if you wanna actually finish something-

Something I don’t see being said enough, especially in the art community, is that motivation/inspiration alone are not going to get you through making art. It’s definitely the kickstart but-
