Dragging after the time change? πŸ₯± Remember: we changed our clocks, but wildlife didn't. 🐾

Found in Feb. after what appeared to be a vehicle strike, this bobcat is now in a remote enclosure, preparing for his lucky return! Please stay alert. Our commute patterns just shifted, but theirs didn't.

🌬️ On windy days, baby season gets busy. Keep an eye out for babies blown from branches or fallen trees. If you find an animal in need, get them to a local wildlife rehabilitator ASAP for the best chance at survival! 🐿️πŸͺΊπŸ£πŸ¦

We recently took in 3 Western Gray Squirrel "pinkies" after their nest fell out of a tree. Look how tiny they are!

To give a sense of their size, adult weights range from 500 to 950 grams, with an average of about 790 grams.

πŸ₯ Yesterday’s Guess the Animal answer: a baby Black-tailed Jackrabbit!

This little one came into our care after someone found it abandoned in Lincoln, CA. We're happy to report it's responding well to care and putting on weight as it continues to grow.

πŸŽ‰ What better way to celebrate a three-day weekend than by watching a beautiful Cooper's Hawk return to the wild?

This was our 73rd patient of 2026, found on the side of the road in Auburn, likely struck by a car. After a week in care, we are happy to announce that it's returned to the wild.

Whether you’re 'nuts' about someone, happily flying solo, or just here for the half-price candy tomorrow, we hope your day is great!

You don't need a special reason (or a fancy bouquet) to be 'tree-mendous' in our book. 🐿️🧑

Happy Valentine's Day from all of us at Gold Country Wildlife Rescue!

πŸ₯ Yesterday’s Guess the Animal answer: a Western Screech Owl

These tiny little owls are often mistaken for baby owls - full-grown, they are about the size of a robin (3.5-10.8oz).

This particular bird came into our care after being hit by a car, & we are hopeful it will return to the wild soon!

🚨 Be Wild Wise 🚨

πŸ’š Please be a good neighbor to wildlife. Check trees & bushes before trimming, & refrain from burning large piles of brush. Start your burn piles small at a nearby location & add brush to it as you go. Nests are all around, and wild babies are already here!

Not one month into 2026, when we received our first glue trap victim: a Say’s Phoebe.

πŸ¦ŽπŸ¦‰ Please shop smart and skip the sticky traps. Instead, choose humane alternatives like ultrasonic deterrents or β€œcatch and hold” traps.

πŸ€πŸœ Prevention is the best long-term solution.

Did you know? In a study, 1 in 4 Cooper’s Hawks show healed chest fractures from hunting in thick vegetation!
