There is much work to be done in Idaho. But I don't see leadership taking accountability for their role in letting Idaho fall this hard down the rabbit hole.

Let's continue to pass legislation that targets diversity, equity, and inclusion. Let's continue attacking the LGBTQ+ community and allow "hetero-awesome fests" that promote both homophobia and racism/anti-Blackness.

It is sad to see what my home state has become and continues to devolve into.

But sure, let's continue to slash funding for public schools, higher education, libraries. Let's continue destroying health care access, especially reproductive health care.

Firefighters shot in Coeur d'alene and still Idaho won't do anything to regulate guns or who owns them. Republican leaders have allowed this alt-right militia mindset to take hold and grow deep roots in the state. It has only gotten worse year after year. Idaho has a long, problematic history.

While not well-publicized, the abortion access cuts were introduced well in advance of the final budget, first suggested in Senate Dems' proposal released a month ago. It’s possible Gov. Ferguson could fill in w/discretionary funds, says Jennifer M. Allen of Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates.

The funding cut is a bit of a deviation for the legislature, which in 2023 passed a suite of policies bolstering access to reproductive health care, and allocated $21 million in funding for abortion services. Additional context: The budget includes almost $3 billion in cuts overall.

And it's happened before. This is not new. In the mid 2000's people were being pulled over in the Magic Valley, based on profiling, being asked to show their papers without cause. The church was putting out know your rights info during Spanish mass. Except now, the vitriol is so much worse.

This is devastating. Immigrants were once again the scapegoat during the presidential election and now we are seeing mass ICE raids.

This is why we expedited my parents passport applications, so they had an easier way to prove they are citizens for when this inevitably happens in Idaho.
