"I wouldn't dream of touching you, Dark." He raises his hand to my cheek but stops short of making contact. The hairs on my cheek stand up as if drawn to his hand, and a shiver runs down my body. "Not unless you want it." "That's what you said about staying away." I shift my head slightly away to lower the risk of touching. I meet his eyes, still enchanted by the way the stars in them sparkle in contrast to the darkness behind them. My hand goes to his chest, perhaps to steady myself, and I can feel his heart racing under it. I raise my chin until our lips have almost connected... And then I shove him back as the guilt twists my gut. "Is that why you erased the messages? To DESTROY your competition?" "God damn it, Dark." He swipes the towel off his neck and tosses it onto the floor, like a challenge or a white flag, I can't decide which. I like this Jesse, the unguarded one, but I can't let my guard down either. "Stop acting like I killed him."
