like there is no logical throughline between gtnh and maplestory. they are completely different with different goals and radically different genres. one's an insanely difficult factory game and the other is a gacha MMORPG. yet they scratch the exact same itch in my brain:

all of my favorite fixation games are grindslop. factorio (i only really liked seablock)? maplestory? osrs? all of it is building up your account/infrastructure over countless hours, trying to optimize as much as you can to make numbers go up faster to get better qol & more efficient grinds.

gregtech new horizons (gtnh) is grindslop. you only like it because it takes you hundreds of hours to make small amounts of progression that feel like genuine accomplishments because of the grind it took to get there

my most recent hyperfixation is gregtech new horizons. yall better be praying for me because im already over 200 hours in and that's not even a tenth of the way through by most estimates

i love how my hyperfixations vary from the MOST extra and insane unhinged topics to like runescape.

LIKEEE i will be diving into the psychology behind cults and then the next week i'll be like "omggggggggg i got so much gold on this flip y'all :3 :3"

i absolutely love the economy angle of runescape so far and i cant wait to see what stuff is in store for me w/membership on main. maybe my next goal will be to max a skill? or fire cape, either one. :)

i did technically have like somewhere around 24-32 hours before making that first bluesky post beforehand but i have been grinding very consistently.

almost all time spent on high alching or crafting ruby/diamond necklaces which seem to be the most consistent gp value for my time.

i'm not going IM because i'm not even sure if you can buy a bond w/gold while being ironman. even if you could, that sounds WAY too tedious even for me.

so far, i think i vastly prefer main over IM. that is, comparing the very limited experience i had with a group IM i didn't get too far on

only history i have with runescape is not knowing how to leave tutorial at like 8 y/o, then playing a group HCIM with friends & i got effectively nowhere before quitting.

so, uh, i don't really know how difficult this challenge *should* be, but i've got a shocking amount of progress very quickly!!

i have a habit of taking on self-imposed challenges in games.

nuzlockes in pokemon, solo progression in maplestory, etc.

aaaaaaand now that i'm picking up osrs, my new challenge is:

f2p all the way to earn my own membership with no prior knowledge of the economy!!! (might be slightly crazy idk)

ALL OF THIS TO SAY.

yeah no it's basically like maybe 1-5% efficiency added to your farming at best, it's INCREDIBLY useless knowledge even when you play around having it, but i will defend it to the death and i will absolutely minmax/use it when i can.

you might ask "why do you need to analyze? wouldn't the game explain what a stat does?"

no. it's such a dated obscure mechanic it's LITERALLY NOT EVEN IN THE UI ANYMORE. when they modernized the UI, they forgot to add autosteal in the stat screen. its THAT level of forgotten/outdated.

we don't have any data to show because it's already basically impossible to find analysis on autosteal as autosteal itself is near impossible to do analysis on. you'd need an impossible amount of data to come to any conclusion.

according to some, and I do believe it, autosteal from familiars is lower value than autosteal on gloves. realistically this is very possible. familiars are weird as hell and don't really work the way they should normally anyway, BUT:

* the % chance of autosteal is allegedy/reportedly roughly equivalent to 1% of drop rate, so if you have 25% autosteal like I do, it's roughly equivalent to 25% drop rate *WHEN IT PROCS.*

BUT THATS NOT ALL

* autosteal sources aren't made equal.

* it can only be acquired from rerolling the potential (stats) on specifically gloves with only one specific type of cube, OR, from the familiar system which is exclusive to a select few regions of maplestory (notably not in the 'base servers' aka the version of maplestory in Korea)

basically, autosteal as a stat (not to be confused with drop rate, which everyone knows and loves):

* only procs on non-summon attacks against enemies that are not boss monsters

* when it procs, it gives a % chance to make a mob that wouldn't drop an item to drop an item, or to drop more currency

in maplestory, there's a stat called "autosteal" which is incredibly niche.

i am known in some maple communities as literally "*the* autosteal lady" because i fully defend the fact that this stat is *TECHNICALLY* worth getting.

as a nonbinary person i will say a very important thing is to like.

read happy / positive news about trans stuff. at least sometimes.

it does exist in spite of the current climate, and the small victories go a long way in making the world feel even a little safer for queer folks as a whole.
