Black text on background of Trans Solidarity Flag: Fossil Free Books stands in solidarity with our trans siblings. We are united in our anger at the Supreme Court ruling and EHRC update.
Rather than providing “clarity”, this ruling and the EHRC interim update are causing confusion, uncertainty and fear.
They have also given strength to the authoritarian, sexist campaign for the persecution and ostracism of trans women.
Trans, non-binary and intersex people – including bookworkers – are facing exclusion from basic aspects of public life.

This ruling is a huge step backwards for the rights of trans people.
This is a step backwards for women.
I am not here to debate this, because there is no debate about the fact that trans people do in fact exist, as much as the hateful among us would prefer they didn't.
Love to my trans siblings.

"Trans women can claim sex discrimination because they are perceived to be women."
This shows that it was never about sex. It was always about whether or not someone is perceived to be feminine enough.
Cis women that don't meet this standard are also at risk and always have been.

"The concept of sex is a binary, a person is either a woman or a man."
This ignores intersex people. Fully denies that they exist.
It also ignores a lot of made up markers involving hormones and secondary sexual characteristics.
Science tells us that sex is a spectrum.

Buy audiobooks & support local bookstores
Libro.fm makes it possible for you to buy audiobooks directly through local bookstores.
Ultimately Amazon is fuelling a consumerist mindset. We do not need to own all the books we read and want to read.
Where you can, shop independent.
For those needing audiobook access, Libro.fm partner with independent bookstores.
And did I mention the miracle that is Libby?

For those that need ebook access, there are alternatives with Kobo at similarly low prices. And there is the Libby app, which is free and still supports authors. For those that want cheap books, there are secondhand options like WOB. There are libraries, which are free and still support authors!

The Bookseller's article on Bloomsbury re-engaging with Amazon is saddening. The language about Amazon "contacting Bloomsbury authors and agents" is alarming. It's a clear attempt to "strong-arm a big trade publisher" and the livelihoods it represents. Don't buy books from Amazon.
