The wave text design is a tribute to my home province, La Union, and a nod to a line in the Philippine national anthem: “Ang kislap ng watawat mo’y, tagumpay na nagniningning” (the sparkle of your flag shines with triumph).

“Ayat para iti pagilian” is an Ilokano phrase that means “love for the homeland / country.” For me, it’s a reminder that love for the Philippines also means showing up and taking action so our kababayan have the protections and fundamental rights they deserve.

Yet even now, as storms approach each year, I watch for updates and messages from back home for reassurance that my family is safe, still waiting and wishing for better for my homeland.

I announced that I started a small business/social enterprise supporting the Filipino American community in Anchorage.

I didn’t plan for the launch to fall on the same week as Black Friday/Small Business Saturday (I was going to do this next year).
