Our Bandura player and therapist Anastasiya, has arrived in Kramatorsk to begin our two week project collaborating with AFU to bring music, Ukrainian culture & therapy to our defenders at the front. In true Fierce Calm style, she hears a siren, she makes music 💛💙

It's my poor effort at preserving his anonymity - being associated with strange British cocktails of fish can be a huge source of shame in Ukraine.

We'd love to say it's the Fierce Calm Tee or Yuliya's magical work; but truly it's testimony to the work of the whole team at Superhumans, the Ukrainians who have rallied round Eddy as one of their own, & his remarkable positivity & desire to help and serve others here. It's a privilege to know him.

And for friends asking: Eddy is making remarkable progress in such an incredibly short space of time. As he says, "The 17 litres of Ukrainian blood put into him has given him super powers". Getting up & down off the floor a big step for a new prosthetic. His outlook is truly inspirational.

The now infamous Prawn Cocktail Crisps (thanks to @mrjamesob.bsky.social) have been handed over to Eddy at the Superhumans Rehabilitation centre in Lviv, despite Yuliya's concerns.

Yes, the work can be mentally tough. But who else gets to poke their head out of their office to see what the commotion is, only to see a guy who sat crying with you a couple of months ago because he thought he would never even stand, let's alone walk again, doing this! UNBROKEN Lviv

We're a fairly small community of volunteers out here in Ukraine, and few were as brave, dedicated, selfless and popular as Chris Garrett. He saved countless lives doing real heroes work de-mining, instructing & aupplying meds. We are all in shock & deeply saddened. RIP Swampy

As more prisoners are released, it's a bitter sweet moment, knowing that they may have their physical freedom today, but tomorrow they may never be truly free from the mental and emotional torment and pain of what has been done to them.

These Ukrainian POWs need help that I'm not sure we can give. Not because we aren't qualified, but because we are bearing witness to the results of such systemic, barbaric cruelty, to so much injustice, that retaining our own humanity is severely tested. It's heartbreaking.

Fifteen years of working with survivors of war, torture and trafficking. But we have never, ever seen such physical, mental scarring. I've never seen such pain and fear in people's eyes. Our hearts break for these poor souls who come to us every day now.

It's one thing to read about the experiences of Ukrainians in Russian captivity or see the photos as they are released, but quite another to sit with them, look into their eyes & listen to the horrors inflicted upon them by the Russian state. Nothing could prepare us for this.

I think it was around the end of the first hour, and then the prawn cocktail crisps got a mention after the news. (I bet it was Eddy she visited?)

So, the strikes aren't 'evil' or even 'terrible'. Just "unnecessary", you know, like 'uncalled for'. And "bad timing", because, murdering civilians on a Thursday when Trump's looking forward to golf at the weekend is really bad timing. Maybe Tuesdays would be better Vladimir?

Just kidding, the patients are awful. They smoke and swear too much and their jokes are terrible😅 . But the crisps? I've not had them in years and a bag exploded in my case under cabin pressure. So I had to eat, and they're incredible!

Adding to the surreal nature of life at war in Ukraine, I never imagined that it would be my introduction of prawn cocktail crisps into Ukrainian amputee rehabilitation would be the post that earned me my 15 mins of fame on @mrjamesob.bsky.social LBC.

Yuliya: Why you have suitcase full of chips?! And you have cocktail made of fish?!?
Me: For the English patient at Superhumans.
Yuliya: And you bring him chips that taste of crazy British fish cocktails??!!!
Me: He asked for them.
Yuliya: Poor guy is sick. They give him too many drugs I think.
