Hi, it's me, Bsky's biggest continuity wanker. I think Doctor Who is a single self-consistent story and get nervous when travel times between known destinations in Star Trek don't line up.

They technically did it with Connery too (ironically not with Moore) and it's a trope I kinda love, but has been overplayed at this point.

Worst thing you could do is try and chase what other action movies are doing: Bond will struggle to match the fights of Wick or the stunts of Mission Impossible. Problem is the modern spy shtick is much more surveillance state than spycraft.

I hate to say they should do a period piece, but I am.

I don't really understand the challenge in writing the new Bond movie. It's a Bond movie. Open with 007 doing spy stuff and then having sex with a lady he has no chemistry with, then have him stumble dick first into a selection of plot points until the bad guys capture him at the end of act 2.

And that's where I feel we're at with Star Trek and fandom cultural as a whole; being sold worse and worse versions of things we already have in an attempt to blot out the original.

That's why Khan is so loved as a villain, why the Mutara nebula is so iconic, both of which Paramount has tried to transplant to other things. But a film is an ecosystem, there is a balance to it which makes it resonate with an audience. Take one element out and it dies on its own.

Star Trek's most referenced film, Wrath of Khan, explicitly only works because of the emotional underpinning of the story and the craft of the crew who brought it to life. It's a story informed by the moment it was in, a last hurrah for the Enterprise crew who had grown older, about aging and death.

Studios want their 'IP' to be aesthetics and beats that they can template and transplant, removing individual talent from the process so they can press the stamp of their brand into the hands of someone cheap and pliable to churn out something profitible. But that's not how it works.

Constant reboots suck the marrow out of what we love and leave no room for something new, but more than that studios are unwilling to accept that a show is more the people and the moment than it is the stories and the sets.
