22.01.2025 06:51 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Finally reading βJesus and John Wayneβ by Dr Kristen Kobes Du Metzβ¦
Page one and itβs already regressing me with the terrible things that happened while I was a pastor at Mars Hill church.
Is this going to traumatize me?
Todayβs David Bentley Hart #WordOfTheDay βfarraginousβ comes from his footnote to Revelation 5:6.
farraginous β’ \fuh-RAJ-uh-nus\ β’ adjective. : consisting of a confused mixture : formed of various materials in no fixed order or arrangement.
What more proof is needed that Paul did not write the pastoral epistles than this:
Titus 3:10-11 βAfter a first and second admonition, have nothing more to do with anyone who causes divisions, since you know that such a person is perverted and sinful, being self-condemned.β
The lie of the Celebrity pastor cult is that a sermon must be good, or somehow better than the sermons of other pastors or churches. All good theologians know that all sermons are bad. Stop grading a church by its preaching. Preaching means saying foolish things from a stage.
24.12.2024 19:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Our good friend David Bentley Hart, once again, trying to dismiss, downplay, and/or deny the doctrine of election in his otherwise excellent New Testament translation. Your orthodox biases are on display.
Folks, remember that all bible translations are ultimately commentaries.

14.12.2024 06:30 β π 1 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0The fides quaerens intellectum, which is different than apologetics means once our eyes are opened to faith by the holy spirit (which faith is one with doubt and not certainty) then we may believe with our eyes open.
09.12.2024 03:44 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 0 π 1The apostles did not do apologetics. They proclaimed the gospel and did not ask anyone to believe or argue people into faith.
09.12.2024 03:43 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0The entire Case For Christ series and similar apologetics books, merch, movies ad nauseam is a massive evangelical grift. Same with the Josh McDowell and other derivatives.
09.12.2024 03:42 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Why are churches still recommending apologetic books like Lee Strobelβs The Case for Christ?
Are you trying to drive people away with a whip?
I have both. I read the first edition a couple times. Finishing up the second edition now. Itβs outstanding. Wish there was a hardcover of the second edition.
07.12.2024 18:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Reading DB Hartβs translation of Ephesians. I appreciate his linking of the all-in-all themes and the angelic proper nouns of Rule, Authority, Power & Lordship. It drags the authorship towards a stronger Paul attribution without pretending it is the lost Epistle to the Laodiceans
07.12.2024 18:28 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I celebrated the first Sunday of advent in a large Catholic Church in Victoria BC.
I appreciated that there was no giant screen projecting talking and singing heads.
A simple service. The only thing upfront that I could see was a large raised crucifix of Jesus at center stage.
An untimely footnote in Alexander Schmemannβs The Eucharist. p. 94

I found the text. It is Weizen/wheat. Just a mistake in translation
24.11.2024 18:44 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0That was my first guess. Or similar word that refers to a different grain. I was surprised that there wasnβt a footnote about it, so likely a translation error from German/french editions.
Itβs from Jerusalem in the Time of Jesus.
Joachim Jeremias argues that pre-Columbian corn was traded in second temple Jerusalem that was imported from Egypt based on the Tosephta Maksherin iii.4.

24.11.2024 18:23 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So we shall replace the old rules of domination through new forms of community in society and with nature. Freedom as harmony will be the watchword once competition is replaced by cooperation, and a mutual give and take with nature comes into being, which will serve the common survival of all.
23.11.2024 17:36 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0In shared freedom, the alienation between people is ended and the separation of human civilization from nature is surmounted. The earth is not intended to be subjected to human domination, and animals are not objects for human subjects; they are "fellow creatures."
23.11.2024 17:36 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Moltmann adds:
βThe old familiar method of government was divide et impera
"divide and rule." The life of the united community consists of the bringing together of what would otherwise be divided.
βA friend is someone who likes you.
It can be a boy or a girl,
or a cat or a dog, or even a white mouse.
A tree can be your friend too.
It doesn't talk to you, but you know it likes you...β
βJoan Walsh Anglund
A free society is not an accumulation of independent individuals; it is a a community of persons in solidarityβa community of "care and share."
Moltmann
The paradigm of rule is auctoritas facit legem ("authority makes the law") while the paradigm of the free society is pacta sunt servanda ("agreements must be kept").
